Unearthing a Forgotten History: Life on the Land Before Bellingrath Gardens & Home

May 23 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Join Dr. Philip Carr of the Center for Archaeological Studies for a continuation of his fascinating lecture series exploring the forgotten history of the land before it became Bellingrath Gardens & Home. Building on the first presentation, Professor Carr will share additional artifacts uncovered during earlier excavations and discuss what archaeologists have learned through the latest phase of research tied to Bellingrath’s Centennial Master Plan.

In 2000, the Center for Archaeological Studies conducted an exploratory dig that uncovered the sites of the 1760s Lisloy Plantation Home and the 19th-century Parker Place. As archaeologists return to further study these significant sites, guests will gain a deeper understanding of the lives, landscapes, and layered history that existed here long before the Gardens opened to the public.
