Wonderful Wednesdays

Wednesdays from June 7 to July 26, 2017

Who knew Wednesdays could be so wonderful? Each summer, Bellingrath Gardens and Home hosts a series of lectures and workshops helping Gulf Coast gardeners and enthusiasts make the most of our extended growing season. Each workshop covers a special feature of the Gardens or Home, tips for making your garden more spectacular or guest lectures and workshops from renowned members of the horticultural and gardening world.

All programs are $13.00 for adults, $7.50 for children and free for Friends of Bellingrath members and children ages 4 and younger.

June 14Kids Gulf Discovery Day — Learn about the wildlife and ecology of the Gulf Coast from a variety of environmental organizations. The Environmental Studies Center will bring their Raptor Road Show to
engage and educate guests about the wonders of native birds of prey. Visitors may also take a cruise along the beautiful Fowl River with our friends from WildNative Delta Safaris! The cruises are dependent on weather conditions, and reservations are required for the cruise. Space is limited, so be sure to make your reservations early.

June 28Roses for the Gulf Coast — Learn about new roses as well as the Southern standards from our friends at K&M Roses in Buckatunna, Miss. K&M Roses has been growing and selling high quality Fortuniana-grafted roses for over 20 years, and their blueberry farm is one of the area's largest producers of fresh and frozen blueberries. July 12Carnival Season & Mardi Gras in Mobile — Local architect and Mardi Gras historian L. Craig Roberts has updated his wonderful book about Mardi Gras. Learn more about the history of Mardi Gras in Mobile and how it started Mardi Gras celebrations in the Western Hemisphere. July 19English silver in the Bellingrath Collection — Mrs. Bellingrath's collection of silver is extensive and includes many fine pieces made by American silversmiths, but the oldest items are English. Join curator Tom McGehee to explore Mrs. Bellingrath's most prized pieces of English silver and learn about the makers, their marks and the history of these impressive objects.10:30–11:30 AMFree for members

July 27New, Better, Yours — Plant the Newest Best Plants: In recent years, new plant varieties and brands have filled your local garden centers, but how do you distinguish the best from the rest? Plant expert Kip McConnell, Director of Plant Development Services Inc., will discuss the newest introductions, including new releases from the Southern Living Plant Collection and Encore Azalea. August 2Magnolia Cemetery Tour — Meet Tom McGehee at Mobile's Magnolia Cemetery for a very special walking tour. The largest and one of the most prominent monuments in the cemetery marks the graves of Walter and Bessie Bellingrath. Learn about the cemetery's beautiful funereal art and about some of its most famous and infamous permanent residents. Comfortable shoes are suggested for this one-hour tour.
Directions: Meet at the Main Gate on South Ann Street.
