Wonderful Wednesdays

Wednesdays from June 2 to July 28, 2021

Who knew that summertime Wednesdays could be so wonderful? Join us in June and July for Wonderful Wednesdays, a fun, informative series on gardening, history and more. Unless otherwise noted, admission is $14 for adults, $8 for ages 5-12 and free for Friends of Bellingrath members and to children ages 4 and younger. Unless otherwise noted, all sessions will begin in the Magnolia Café.

June 2Summer Garden Walk: Join Bellingrath’s Horticultural Management Team for a guided tour of the Gardens to see our wonderful summer displays, floral borders and new additions. Stay for lunch in our Magnolia Café and check out our new merchandise in the Bellingrath Gift Shop.10:30 to

June 9Kids Gulf Discovery Day: Learn about the wildlife and ecology of the Gulf Coast from a variety of environmental organizations. The Environmental Studies Center will bring their Raptor Road Show to engage and educate guests about the wonders of native birds of prey. The Dauphin Island Sea Lab's scientists will be on hand with their Touch Tables, displaying the amazing creatures of Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Visitors may also take a 25-minute guided cruise along the beautiful Fowl River with our friends from WildNative Delta Safaris! Space is limited and reservations are required for the cruises, so be sure to make your reservations early. 9 a.m. to noonFree for members;

June 23Garden renovations at Bellingrath, with Dr. Todd Lasseigne, Executive Director. The Bellingrath Horticultural Staff is taking a fresh look at areas that need to be pruned and replanted. Join us for a "walk and talk" to view the improvements, and learn how you can apply these best practices to your garden. Questions are encouraged!10:30 to 11:30 a.m.Free for members;

July 7Growing Cascade Chrysanthemums: See what goes into creating the largest outdoor display of cascading mums in the country! Chuck Owens, Director of Horticulture, will lead a behind-the-scenes tour of the Bellingrath mum production. Get a sneak peek of the special updates in process for the 2021 show!10:30 to 11:30 a.m.Free for members;

July 14Viewing the Summer Sky: Join us for an evening astronomy program led by members of the University of South Alabama Department of Physics. After an introductory presentation, guests will walk to the Great Lawn to view planets and constellations, weather permitting. Telescopes will be set up to view planets and constellations. Guests are encouraged to bring binoculars and flashlights. In the event of inclement weather, the class will be rescheduled to either July 15 or July 16.Presentation: 7 to 8 p.m.
Outside viewing: 8 to 9 p.m.

July 21Terra cotta planter workshop: Join Bellingrath's Yvonne Clark and create your own one-of-a-kind planter during this special evening craft session. All supplies are included. July 28Paula Webb, author of "Mobile Under Siege: Surviving the Union Blockade," will discuss her research on Mobile history. She is a tenured librarian at the University of South Alabama and is currently working on a book about the life of Octavia Walton LeVert.10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.Free for members;
