Mr. Walter Duncan Bellingrath dies at the age of 86 and is buried beside his wife at Magnolia Cemetery. After Mr. Bellingrath’s death, George Downing becomes Chairman of the Board of the Bellingrath-Morse Foundation. The House is prepared for the opening to the public by the year’s end and the Gift Shop is installed in former Lodge. Frederick W. Holder is named General Manager and oversees marketing. He is an early organizer of the America’s Junior Miss program, which always includes visits to Bellingrath Gardens and Home.
